Mixed media, A day to remember
I was playing with some spray inks in my journal and put down more than I intended. I took a piece of water color paper and put it on top and absorbed some of the ink. I liked how it looked so I drew a face on it. I colored her hair and the remaining background with distress inks and added some collage. Here is the beginning and finished piece.

Panpastel Poppies
Hi everyone! It has been a while since I've posted, but, summer is a busy time! Family, friends and shows! I am getting ready for two shows at the end of the month.....I recycle t-shirts into dresses and my inventory is quite low. I will post a few pics after I finish them. After the shows I will be off to Mobile Al. with my daughter. She is driving to upper Michigan and I will drive back with her and my grandchildren. Can't wait !!!
But, I did find time to do this mixed media print. It was inspired by Donna Downey's art lesson from CPS....it is done with Panpastels.......
hope you like it!

So Blue
I drew this face and had a lot of trouble with the hair. I painted, wiped it off, painted again to many times. I decided to put it away, but, I took a picture of it first....after I wiped the paint off, again! I put it into my photo editing software and palyed with it. I changed the background color many times...I now have this girl with, at least ten hair colors! I am making notecards from the images. I need some cool quotes to type on the front of each one....and ideas?

Gelli Print Pillow!
A while back I saw a hand painted, strip quilted pillow on Julie Fei Fan balzer's blog. I really liked it, but, never did make it. So, I thought I would try and paint the fabric with my Gelli plate. I cut my fabric into differnt size strips and started painting.....So much fun!!! I used Jaquard textile paints and they worked well. I added the word ART and a few others for contrast.

Flowers in my hair
Wow! It's been over two weeks since I've posted! Life does get in the way. This is just a simple collage done on a gelli print background. I cut out a face from a magazine and painted over it and added some collage elements and printed words. Easy journal page....The little lady circled in white is my mom...many years ago.

Work in Progress...done!
So, I'm done1 Took me a little longer than I thought, but, I finished it today!. Life got in the way this week! I colored in more of the zentangles with the Faber Castell big brush markers, deepen the shadows on her face and colored the background teal. I decided I did not like the background, at all,so, I cut it out and put her on a black background. I think it's much better!
What do you think?

Work in Process...Step 2
Well, I remembered pictures! I really wasn't sure where I was going with this piece, so, I just started shading a little on the face...hoping she would talk to me! I used some watered down teal paint to shade the face and add a little more color to the background. It seems like hair always presents problems for me. I really struggle with it. As I looked at all the different colors in the background, zentangles came to mind. I penciled in a few and decided that was the way I would go. After I finished most of the zentangles, she reminded me of a warrior.
I will name this piece for my daughter, Lisa, who last week, had her one year check-up following
a stem cell transplant. She has been battling Hodgkins Lymphoma for three years...She is now cancer free!! She is a true warrior!

Works in progress
I always seem to have so many works in progress...I counted seven and that's just projects in my journals. I'll try and post pictures as I work on them and explain my process a little. I just get involved and forget to take photos! But, I will do my best! The backgrounds are painted, I thinks they were scraped on with a credit card. One of them was gessoed for the face before I drew it. The other was not.

This journal page was done for the April challenge on the Artist in Blogland challenge. It was fast and easy! I had a gelli print background I did a few weeks ago. I id a little stamping on the background, then, I cut out the figure and glued her down. really like this image! I printed out the words, glued them down and outined around them...finished!

When a door opens...
This is another collage done, again, on a gelli print background.....I think I'm addicted! While I was working on this piece I got Jessica Sporn's stencil, Windows and Doors, in the mail.
http://stencilgirlproducts.com/stencils-9x12/view/756 I decided to incorporate it into the piece. I didn't have much room left, but, I was able to stencil one of the doors and print out one of the quotes.

Gelli print background
I made this gelli print a while ago...wish I could remember how I did it!! I did take a picture and did some photo editing to enhance the color and I applied a filter. I then printed it and had a toner copy made.....I glued it into my art journal and did some rubberstamping, used a stencil by Dina Wakely, printed some words and finished my page!

Be your own kind of beautiful!
I am accumulating a large pile of papers from gelli printing, papers from cleaning off brushes and spray inks. So, I am trying to use them for backgrounds in my collages, This paper was very orange and pink. I think it was from dylusion spray inks. It did bleed some, the reason for her rosy cheeks! but, it was ok!

I am unique!
This piece actually started out with a gelli print background. I had made some prints on deli paper and glued them down in my journal. This one was pretty blue! I sketeched out a face last weekend and decided to try and do something with it today. I painted it a flesh tone, but, it was still pretty blue. So, I decided, she could be blue! I think the collged elements at the bottom are a little to dark, but, it is what is is.
